Input Parameters

First day of your last menstrual period, or your IVF transfer date if using the IVF method.

days

Only applied to the LMP method; a dated IVF transfer needs no cycle adjustment.

Naegele Cycle Adjustment
Standard 28-day cycle
Summary: Based on a start date of 15 Jan 2026 and a 28-day cycle, your Estimated Due Date is 22 Oct 2026 — currently 40 weeks + 2 days (Third Trimester), with 2 days past the EDD. Full term begins Week 37 on 01 Oct 2026.
Step-by-Step Calculation Solution
1.Start date (LMP) = 15 Jan 2026
2.EDD = Start + 280 days = 22 Oct 2026
3.Cycle Adjustment = 28 - 28 = 0 days
4.Gestational Age today (24 Oct 2026) = 40 weeks + 2 days
5.Week 6 (26 Feb 2026): Heartbeat detectable via ultrasound
6.Week 8 (12 Mar 2026): First trimester screening window
7.Week 12 (09 Apr 2026): NT scan / NIPT available; risk of miscarriage drops significantly
8.Week 13 (16 Apr 2026): End of First Trimester - major organ development complete
9.Week 20 (04 Jun 2026): Anatomy ultrasound (morphology scan)
10.Week 24 (02 Jul 2026): Viability threshold (legal & NICU standard)
11.Week 27 (23 Jul 2026): End of Second Trimester
12.Week 28 (30 Jul 2026): Third trimester begins - weekly monitoring increases
13.Week 36 (24 Sep 2026): Early term - lungs nearly mature
14.Week 37 (01 Oct 2026): Full term - safe delivery range begins
15.Week 40 (22 Oct 2026): Estimated Due Date (EDD) - Naegele Rule
16.Week 42 (05 Nov 2026): Post-term - induction typically recommended

Formula & How Pregnancy Due Date & Gestational Age Calculator Works

Mathematical Formula
Naegele: EDD = LMP + 280 days + (Cycle Length - 28) | IVF: EDD = Transfer Date + 261 days

Naegele's rule dates a pregnancy from the first day of the last menstrual period and adds 280 days, assuming ovulation on day 14 of a 28-day cycle. Longer or shorter cycles shift ovulation, so the cycle-length adjustment corrects the estimate. An IVF transfer has a known conception date, so no adjustment applies — a 5-day blastocyst is already 19 days into gestational age at transfer. Worked example: a last menstrual period starting on 15 January 2026, with a regular 28-day cycle, gives a due date 280 days later, on 22 October 2026. A longer or shorter cycle moves the date by the number of days it differs from 28. An early dating ultrasound is more accurate than the last menstrual period, so your doctor or midwife may adjust the date. Only about 5% of babies are born on the due date, and a healthy birth any time from 37 to 42 weeks is normal.

How to Calculate Pregnancy Due Date & Gestational Age Calculator (Step-by-Step)

Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs)

How accurate is an estimated due date?

Only about 4% of babies arrive on the EDD. Roughly 80% are born within the two weeks either side, which is why 37 to 42 weeks is treated as the normal delivery window.

Why does an IVF due date differ from an LMP due date?

IVF has a known fertilisation and transfer date, so the EDD is calculated directly from it. LMP dating assumes ovulation on day 14, which is an estimate that varies between cycles.
