How do I calculate the fuel cost of a trip in Australia?
Fuel cost = (distance ÷ 100) × fuel use in L/100 km × price per litre. For example, 500 km at 8 L/100 km and $2.00 per litre is 5 × 8 × 2.00 = $80. The trip fuel calculator does this for you, adds tolls and splits the cost between passengers.
Is diesel or petrol cheaper to run?
Diesel engines use less fuel per kilometre, but diesel usually costs more per litre and diesel vehicles often cost more to buy. The diesel vs petrol calculator finds the annual distance where the fuel saving pays back the extra purchase price.
Where do your fuel prices come from?
Prices come from official state fuel price schemes where available, such as Victoria, Queensland, Western Australia, South Australia and NSW and ACT. Each price board shows when the data was last updated and whether a figure is live or an estimate.
When is the cheapest time to buy petrol?
Prices in capital cities usually follow a weekly cycle with lower prices earlier in the week and higher prices around weekends, but cycles differ by city. Check your city's live board before filling up.
