Formula & How Energy & Work Converter Works
Food labels in Australia use kilojoules (kJ), while many overseas sources use Calories (kcal). One kcal is 4.184 kJ, so a 8,400 kJ daily intake is 8,400 ÷ 4.184 = about 2,008 kcal. Electricity is measured in kilowatt-hours, where one kWh equals 3,600 kJ. One joule is one watt-second and one BTU is about 1.055 kJ. When comparing diets, appliances or energy bills, convert everything to one unit first. For example a 2 kW heater running for one hour uses 2 kWh, or 7,200 kJ, which at 30 cents per kWh costs 60 cents.
