Formula & How Tip & Bill Split Calculator Works
To split a bill with a tip, add the tip to the bill and divide by the number of people. For a $180 bill with a 15% tip, the tip is 180 × 0.15 = $27, the total is $207, and for four people each pays 207 ÷ 4 = $51.75. Tipping is optional in Australia and many people round up the bill or leave around 10% for good service, so set the percentage to whatever you prefer. Remember that any surcharge, such as a weekend or public holiday surcharge, is usually already part of the bill the tip is calculated on. Round the per-person amount up to the nearest 5 cents if you are paying in cash.
