Formula & How Net Worth Calculator Works

Mathematical Formula
Net Worth = Total Assets - Total Liabilities

Net worth is everything you own minus everything you owe. Add up your assets: cash and savings, the market value of your home and investments, superannuation, a car and other valuables. Then add up your liabilities: mortgage, car and personal loans, credit card balances and any HECS-HELP debt. If your assets total $650,000 and your liabilities total $420,000, your net worth is $230,000. Track the figure once or twice a year, using the same method each time, to see the trend rather than reacting to month-to-month market moves. Superannuation is usually included, but remember you cannot access most of it until you reach preservation age.
