Formula & How GST / VAT Calculator Works

Mathematical Formula
GST = Total / 11 (or Net × 0.10)

Australian GST is 10% of the price of most goods and services. To add GST to a GST-exclusive price, multiply by 1.1: $250 becomes $275, of which $25 is GST. To find the GST inside a GST-inclusive price, divide by 11: a $110 price contains $10 of GST and $100 before GST. Dividing by 1.1 gives the ex-GST amount, which is the same $100. Businesses registered for GST use these figures on tax invoices and the BAS. Some items, such as basic food and many health and education services, are GST-free, so check whether GST actually applies before you use the result.
