Estimated Charging Cost
$12.13
Estimated Charge Time
3h 33m
Energy Added
39 kWhkWh
Grid Energy Drawn (90% eff)
43.3 kWh
Step-by-Step Calculation Solution
1.Energy needed = Battery capacity × (% to add) = 65 kWh × 60% = 39 kWh
2.Charging cost = Energy drawn × Tariff rate = 43.3 kWh × $0.28/kWh = $12.13

Formula & How EV Charging Cost & Time Calculator Works

Mathematical Formula
Cost = (Battery kWh × % to Add / 0.90 Efficiency) × Tariff Rate

Charging cost is the energy added to the battery multiplied by your electricity price, plus the energy lost as heat in the charger and battery, which is typically around 10%. Filling 60 kWh at a home tariff of $0.30 per kWh costs 60 × 0.30 = $18 before losses, or about $20 once a 10% loss is included. A car using 17 kWh per 100 km costs about 17 × 0.30 = $5.10 per 100 km at home, compared with roughly $17 for a petrol car using 9 L/100 km at $1.90. Public fast chargers charge a higher per-kWh price, and off-peak or solar charging can cut the cost well below the standard tariff.

How to Calculate EV Charging Cost & Time Calculator (Step-by-Step)
